Portage Marble & Granite History

After Bud’s death, his wife Helen managed the operation until she sold it to Tom Buzzi in 1968. Tom Buzzi originally started at North Hill Marble & Granite in Akron working for his grandfather. With his experience in the monument industry, it was an easy transition.
In 1998, Rock of Ages Corporation from Barre, VT acquired Portage Marble & Granite from Tom Buzzi in their quest to build the Rock of Ages brand through memorial retailers. During that ten year time frame, Rock of Ages assigned Larry Conti with the responsibility of managing several locations in northern Ohio, including Portage Marble & Granite.
In 2008, Rock of Ages changed their focus and turned many of their operations back over to the families that were managing them. When the opportunity arose for Larry Conti to purchase Portage Marble & Granite in 2008, there was no hesitation. With Larry’s daughter, Kelly Adams, leading the daily logistics, Portage Marble & Granite continues the legacy of quality memorials and superior service.
